Blog #7 - TagBrush

Though my knowledge on photoshop is limited, I did some research and followed the PDF step by step in order to create the colorful logos in image 1. For this piece, I decided to include both of the original black and white Logo's, hoping to give the Tag Brush some variety and to experiment with the tools in photoshop. Alongside the "scratches" we were required to include, I also chose to layer "spray" on top of the previous layer. Doing this assignment from a laptop rather than a desktop proved to be difficult. I was able to accurately follow the document outlining instructions in dropbox, however, the process was tedious over the laptop.  The two images above are proof of the difficulties I was having, as certain tools either were not options on m...

Blog #6 - Self Portrait / Poster

I work in this office as a student photographer for athletic events, practices, and games. I am extremely passionate about my work, but often find myself in the background of a male dominated field. This is why I chose to relate my poster to that of "Rosie The Riveter", as a sign of women empowerment. The field of sports is dominated by men, even at the collegiate level, so the idea of the poster stemmed from that notion. I decided to draw myself twice, as to give some difference between my poster design and the inspirational propaganda poster. Drawing myself with my hands on my hips also shows empowerment and attitude, as Rosi...

Blog #5 - Logo

I have always drawn an uppercase cursive letter "A" in the shape of a star so I modeled the shape of the letter "A" in the logo after it. In the original design, I used the pen tool to draw and fill each line but after attending class, professor suggested that I type and shape the letters with certain fill colors. I did not originally think of typing out the letters, but I do believe the final product looks better than the original, as a piece of final art typically does look better than the draft. Finding a way to separate the colors after typing the letters was the most difficult part. I decided to use a black stroke on the white fill parts of the letters, bec...

Blog #4 - Calligramme

Image
Ava Farrelly Calligramme  Artist Statement:  - Why have I created this work/Works History? As reflected in both class and in my "Letter to Future Self", one of my many passions in this life has been photography. Very rarely do I go somewhere without my camera. It has been this way for as long as I could remember even when I was very little. I chose to do my Calligramme on a camera with the words from my letter that are most important to me such as my name, The University of Tampa, and my current goals/manifestations.  - Overall Vision? The overall vision for this Caligramme was to express and show the emphasis on a few of my main passions; camera, family name, my goals/manifestations, and my time here at the University of Tampa. The camera was chosen, as it is a huge consistency across my life because I currently work as a photographer for the University and because it is my future career goal.  - Sources of Inspiration for the Image? The original camera image I drew...

Blog #4 - Letter to Future Self

Dear Future Self,  Wow, where to even begin. I honestly struggled to write this out. You won't remember but there is so much chaos going on in life right now. Between family, soccer shots, photography, money, getting caught up on school, social life, boyfriend, and friends, I don’t know where to start with this letter. On a positive note, in 2 days you have a facetime interview with the Talent Acquisition Manager with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a possible internship opportunity (thank you cousin Rick). I am currently sitting here trying to type this letter while waiting for the Career Services lady to call my name for my meeting with someone who works in the professional sports world.  Life is moving so insanely fast right now, with three million things happening at once, and everyone telling you their opinions and how you should be doing certain things. I guess that is just life? What do you think now after living through it? You probably won't even remember how stressed yo...
